A planning application to develop a carbon capture plant in Lincolnshire has been submitted to the Council.
The proposed Killingholme Low Carbon Power project (KLCP) would be built on land next to the existing power station site, which already has permission for the construction of a new 550MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCTG) power station.
The plant is said to be a key part in exploring the potential development of carbon capture technology alongside the power station.
Energy company Uniper say they aim to capture at least 95% of the CO2 emissions produced during electricity generation.
The plans also include a spur pipeline, which would connect to nearby CO2 infrastructure, enabling the captured gas to be safely transported to offshore storage facilities.
Both the consented CCTG power station and the proposed carbon capture plant could be operational from 2030.
