BYD replaced Leapmotor at the top of Brego’s fastest-selling pre-registered and used electric vehicle rankings in August, with Chinese-owned brands taking eight of the 10 places across the two tables.
The BYD Atto 3 Evo 230kW Design 75kWh led both categories. Pre-registered examples took an average of just 4.4 days to sell, at an average price of £26,784, while vehicles in the wider used EV category averaged 8.8 days and £27,670.
Leapmotor had led both rankings in July, when the B10 was the quickest-selling pre-registered car at five days and the C10 headed the used EV table at 7.2 days.
The B10 remained prominent during August, placing second in both categories. It averaged 5.1 days to sale as a pre-registered car and 9.8 days in the used EV market.
Chery’s Tiggo 8 completed the pre-registered top three at 6.2 days. The Hyundai i20 ranked fourth at 8.9 days and the Leapmotor C10 fifth at 9.1 days, giving Chinese brands four of the five places.
In the used EV ranking, the Leapmotor C10 placed third at 11.4 days, followed by the Nissan Ariya at 11.8 days and MG5 at 13.2 days.
Rupert Pontin, head of insight and communications at Brego, said: “The movement at the top of these rankings is notable. Leapmotor led both categories in July but BYD moved into first place in each during August.
“That said, Leapmotor remains strongly represented, particularly through the B10, while Chery has moved into the leading pre-registered group. The result gives us an early indication of how quickly particular Chinese derivatives are moving within the current stock and pricing environment.
“However, several of these vehicles appear in both the pre-registered and used EV categories. That suggests pre-registered activity is influencing the used EV results and makes it too early to draw firm conclusions about sustained, broad-based used demand.”
BMW M3 becomes fastest-selling
August also brought a significant change to Brego’s wider used-car ranking. EVs occupied four of the five places in July, led by the Audi Q4 e-tron at 10.7 days. In August, electric models took two places, while the BMW M3 3.0 Competition M xDrive became the fastest-selling used car overall.
The M3 averaged just 7.6 days to sale at £62,116, making it 3.1 days quicker than July’s leader. It finished more than five days ahead of the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 60 Match, which averaged 12.7 days at an average price of £3,271.
The Hyundai Kona Electric ranked third at 13.3 days, followed by the Volkswagen ID.4 at 13.9 days and Volkswagen Golf at 14 days.
August’s three-year-old ranking was also more varied. EVs had occupied all five positions in July but took three places the following month.
The Škoda Karoq 1.5 TSI 150 ACT SE L Edition led the August table at 11.8 days and £18,926, followed by the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Škoda Fabia and Tesla Model Y.
Pontin said: “Comparing the two months reinforces why the market cannot be understood through one broad narrative. EVs dominated the overall and three-year-old rankings in July but August produced a more varied group of fastest-selling derivatives.
“The contrast between a £62,000 BMW M3 and a £3,000 Volkswagen Polo at the top of the August ranking also shows that rapid stock movement is not confined to one price band, vehicle type or powertrain.
“The real commercial picture sits at derivative level. Retailers need to understand how individual vehicles are performing within their particular age, specification, price and market position rather than relying on assumptions based on fuel type or brand alone.”
Among 10-year-old cars, the Volkswagen Polo 1.0 SE was fastest-selling at 17.8 days and an average price of £6,268. Two Ford Fiesta derivatives, the Nissan Qashqai and Vauxhall Corsa completed the top five.
Brego’s Fastest Five provides a monthly snapshot of the quickest-selling derivatives across key parts of the used-car market.
Each derivative must record at least 30 sales to qualify, while cars in the overall used category must have covered at least 5,000 miles. Derivatives can appear in more than one category, with each ranking calculated separately using vehicles that meet its particular criteria.
