In the UK, 74% of businesses say managing energy has become more complex, with 43% claiming this complexity slows down investment decisions.

A report by EDF found that the difficulty has also made budgeting and long-term planning more difficult for almost half of organisations surveyed.

Despite this, 86% say they are confident in managing energy price volatility.

As the UK progresses towards the Clean Power 2030 targets, there is more pressure on businesses to be ‘greener’ – meaning the way businesses buy, use and manage energy has evolved.

The research highlights a need for more choice and support, as 57% want more flexible contracts and 45% want help with decarbonisation.

Alongside government expectations, the research shows that 48% of organisations manage energy risk continuously rather than primarily at renewal.

Alongside price volatility, businesses are also navigating more complex contracts, changing regulation, new technologies and challenges surrounding the quality and visibility of their energy data.
