Big Motoring World has reported a 21% year-on-year increase in used car sales during the first half of 2026 after setting a succession of monthly and quarterly records.

The independent used car supermarket group said improved pricing, a stock mix more closely aligned with customer demand and investment in customer care and aftersales had helped drive the growth.

Big Motoring World sold more than 18,300 used vehicles during the first three months, setting a new quarterly record for the business.

It also achieved successive monthly sales records in January, February, March and April, while two of its dealerships each exceeded 1,000 sales in a single month for the first time.

Pricing and stock fuel growth

The group said changes to its pricing strategy and vehicle mix had made its stock more competitive and better matched to current used car demand.

Its expansion continued in May with the opening of a new used car supermarket in Warrington which can display up to 1,000 vehicles from more than 40 brands.

Big Motoring World now operates 11 used car supermarkets across the UK, alongside five vehicle preparation centres with combined capacity to process around 80,000 vehicles annually. The company sold more than 60,000 vehicles during 2025.

Strengthened customer offer

Big Motoring World became an RAC Approved Dealer in May, giving customers access to the RAC Approved Garage & Repairer Network and additional independent reassurance over vehicle standards.

Vehicles sold by the group are now covered by an enhanced three-month Big Care Inspect & Repair Warranty. The cover includes RAC breakdown assistance, no customer contribution and immediate wear-and-tear protection.

Big Motoring World said the warranty covers customers for the full purchase price of the vehicle, rather than applying the market-value limits commonly found in other used car warranties.

The dealer group is also offering a £500 deposit contribution to customers buying a car through its Smart Drive personal contract purchase plan between July 20 and August 31.

Laurence Vaughan, chief executive of Big Motoring World, said: “These results reflect the ongoing efforts made by people at all levels of our business in transforming how we operate, helping us become one of the best used car retailers in the UK. Our latest deposit contribution ensures we give something back to our customers, providing them with the best value alongside unrivalled choice and proven quality.”
