Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has vowed to continue drilling in the North Sea if the party were to come into power.

In her closing speech at the party’s conference in Birmingham, she condemned the importation of oil.

Mrs Badenoch said: “Climate change is real but importing oil and gas from countries that drill it in a dirtier fashion, that actually increases our emissions.”

The Tory leader implied that, if elected, the Conservatives will keep the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields open in the North Sea, claiming it will “drive down energy prices ”.

Mrs Badenoch still insisted that using a mixture of all energy sources is essential.

She said: “We need oil and gas, we need renewables, we need nuclear. We will build small modular reactors because our mission is for cheap, clean, abundant energy.”

The MP for North West Essex went on to echo the words spoken in Aberdeen claiming people said the city is “dying” and that the governments energy policy is “killing Aberdeen”.
