Amanda Spensley, owner and managing director of Wynyard Motor Company in Stockton-on-Tees, has been named Autotrader Woman of the Year 2026.

The award recognised Spensley’s resilience and leadership after she took full responsibility for the family-run car dealership following the death of her husband, Lee Spensley, in 2023.

Judges highlighted the stability she provided for the dealership’s employees while improving its performance, processes and culture and building stronger foundations for future growth.

Julia Muir, founder of the Automotive 30% Club, said: “Amanda’s story is one of inspirational and resilient leadership. She stepped forward during an exceptionally challenging period and not only protected the future of the business, but strengthened its processes, culture and foundations for growth.

“Her determination, effectiveness as a leader and commitment to her team make her an outstanding role model and a thoroughly deserving winner of the Woman of the Year Award.”

Leadership through transformation

Wynyard Motor Company began around a kitchen table in 2010 and has grown into an established independent prestige car dealership serving the North East.

Under Spensley’s leadership, it has introduced stronger operational processes, enhanced its HR and health and safety arrangements, brought selected services in-house and expanded its digital presence.

The business has also made a six-figure investment in the transformation of its Portrack Lane dealership, including a completely refurbished showroom, upgraded customer facilities, a new logo and refreshed corporate identity.

Spensley said: “Receiving the Autotrader Woman of the Year award is an incredible honour. Although the award carries my name, it reflects the hard work, loyalty and commitment of the whole Wynyard Motor Company team.

“Since 2023, we have worked hard to strengthen the business while protecting the family values at its heart. The refurbishment is a visible part of that journey and represents our confidence in the future. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to welcoming customers, partners and friends of the business into the completed showroom on 21 November.”

Dealership prepares to reopen

The refurbishment is intended to provide a more modern customer experience while preserving the personal service and family values on which the business was founded.

Wynyard Motor Company specialises in prestige used cars from marques including Bentley, Porsche, Land Rover, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.

The transformed dealership will officially reopen between noon and 5pm on November 21.
