A new academy has been launched in Aberdeen as a dedicated pathway for substation fitter apprenticeships.
The academy is a collaboration between Siemens Energy and 3t, creating Scotland’s first independent training provider-led facility of its kind.
Stephen Gethins, Scottish Energy Minister, said: “Developing the skills we need to power Scotland’s future is essential, and the Power Academy is an important step in creating new opportunities for the next generation of energy workers.”
The academy is designed to give learners real-world teaching – including access to practical, industry-standard training that would typically be associated with network operators’ own internal training facilities and a dedicated substation facility.
An estimated 400,000 energy jobs will need to be recruited for by 2050, according to National Grid research. Around 260,000 are expected to be new roles, while 140,000 will replace people leaving the workforce.
