The UK’s International Climate Finance (ICF) has helped with clean energy and climate resilience projects across Asia.
Clean energy projects in Bangladesh are able to earn an income by selling credits through support from the Carbon Initiative for Development (Ci-Dev) programme.
The UK government say this it is helping projects attract investment, remain financially viable and continue providing clean electricity over the longer term.
Around 3.3 million solar home systems have been supported in Bangladesh to date as part of the Ci-Dev programme, overcoming frequent power-cuts and saving household energy bills.
Labour say the initiative has assisted in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by one million tonnes.
In Indonesia, the ICF has helped establish the country’s largest marine protected area with community co-management, to protect coral reefs.
The financing has also supported the development of new a mooring system that enables boats to anchor without damaging reefs. Overall 10 moorings have been installed, protecting an estimated 1,700 coral species.
Across Indonesia, UK investment has enabled more than 526,000 hectares to be placed under sustainable management practices.
