A new 98MW solar farm and 100MW of BESS has been approved in Scotland, marking its largest solar farm to date. Once live, it will have the capacity to power more than 28,000 homes and avoid more than 40,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.
The farm will be located in South Lanarkshire and is owned by Qair Renewables UK. Unlike many recent solar farms, it will be situated on non-prime agricultural land rather than ex-farmland.
Pete McLaren, Head of Scottish Development at Qair UK, said: “Securing consent for Rogerhill is a significant milestone for Qair and for the continued development of solar energy in Scotland. As the largest solar project to receive planning approval in the country to date, Rogerhill demonstrates the increasingly important role that solar and battery storage can play in creating a more flexible, secure and low-carbon energy system.”
Qair say they are committed to ensuring the project delivers lasting benefits for the surrounding area, including prioritising local contractors where possible and providing a community benefits and enhancements package.
