Minister for Energy Michael Shanks has urged the public to be patient with what Great British (GB) Energy “will deliver in the future”, reports The Scotsman.
Speaking after King Charles III unveiled a plaque on a visit to the firm’s new Aberdeen headquarters, the Minister said the organisation has made “huge strides” since being set up last year.
During the visit, it was announced that the north east of Scotland will receive £750,000 in funding for skills, training and employability work.
GB Energy Chairman Jurgen Maier has previously said in 2024 that the HQ could have more than 1000 employees but this has since been changed to 300.
When asked if the public has been misled by the initial figures Mr Shanks said: “I think we’ve always said throughout that there will be a few hundred people working in the HQ but that Great British Energy’s job creation will go far beyond an office in Aberdeen.”
The King praised the work of GB Energy and the “genius” of people in the north east of Scotland. Mr Shanks followed this by highlighting the importance of the King’s visit in putting the organisation “on the map”.
