Nissan will add the Pixo city car to its UK range in early 2027, giving dealers a new entry-level electric vehicle (EV) to tempt more customers to switch to electric driving.

The A-segment model will sit below the Micra and Leaf in Nissan’s expanding electric car line-up, providing a more accessible route into EV ownership.

Designed by Nissan and manufactured by alliance partner Renault, the Pixo will be produced at the Novo Mesto factory in Slovenia.

UK pricing, specifications and pre-order details are due to be announced from December, ahead of the first customer deliveries in early 2027. It’s likely the model will be targetting a sub-£20,000 price point. Adding on the Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) would take the price even lower.

Every Pixo can be charged to 80% in 28 minutes

The Pixo uses a 27.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, the first LFP unit fitted to a Nissan model sold in Europe.

It provides a WLTP range of up to 161 miles and powers a 60kW electric motor.

Every grade will receive 50kW DC rapid charging as standard, allowing the battery to be replenished from 15% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes.

An 11kW bidirectional AC charging system will also be available for home and workplace charging.

The Pixo measures 3,796mm long and 1,790mm wide, with a 2,492mm wheelbase and a 9.9-metre turning circle.

Despite its compact dimensions, Nissan said the cabin would accommodate four adults. Independently sliding rear seats allow customers to adjust the balance between passenger and luggage space.

Boot capacity is 356 litres with the rear seats in place, including 50 litres of charging cable storage. This increases to 1,221 litres when the rear seats are folded.

Masato Koyama, lead exterior designer at Nissan Global Design, said: “Pixo proves that great things can come in small packages. Its compact dimensions make it a natural fit for Europe’s cities, but we’ve worked hard to maximise the space within them, creating a cabin that feels open, practical and surprisingly roomy.”

Google and Gemini technology fitted as standard

The Pixo will offer Google built-in connectivity, including navigation and real-time route planning, through a 10-inch central touchscreen.

Google’s Gemini assistant will support navigation, entertainment and communication through voice interaction. Nissan said the system would be available in 16 languages and dialects from launch.

Conversation history will allow Gemini to learn driver preferences over time.

Face ID will recognise individual drivers and automatically load their personalised settings, while the MyNissan app will provide remote access to charging and other vehicle functions.

A seven-inch driver display will be fitted alongside the central touchscreen.

One-pedal driving will be standard, together with assistance systems including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane departure warning and hands-free parking.

Clíodhna Lyons, vice-president of product, brand and marketing strategy at Nissan AMIEO, said: “We believe the future of electric mobility isn’t about building bigger vehicles with more technology, it’s about building smarter vehicles that fit naturally into people’s lives.

“Pixo has been designed specifically for Europe and specifically for our cities, delivering everything customers need from an EV, without unnecessary complexity.”

The Pixo complements Nissan’s recently introduced Micra and Leaf electric cars, giving dealerships coverage across a wider range of customer budgets and vehicle sizes.

The compact EV features a cube-shaped profile, pixel-inspired lighting and a front bumper designed to resemble a robot face.

Nissan has also included hidden “23” design details around the car, referencing the Japanese pronunciation of “Ni-San”.

Exterior colours will include Wonder Purple and Gear Blue.
