Bob the Builder is back and this time he’s going green with E.ON Next to help the UK’s energy transition.
The stop-motion character returns with Neil Morrissey providing his voice for the first time since 2011, in a campaign to inspire people to learn green skills.
In a 90-second film, Bob heads to the net zero training academy after being inspired by solar panels and home batteries during a trip to Australia. He learns how technologies that can cut bills and give households more control could become part of his new toolkit.
Helen Bradbury, Chief People Officer at E.ON UK, said: “Bob the Builder has always inspired people to solve problems and build things that matter. Today, those same qualities are needed to help deliver the UK’s transition to clean power.
“By embracing green skills and fronting this campaign, he’s a shining example of how we can make new energy work for everyone.”
The campaign comes as research suggests the UK’s green workforce has some building to do. Around 31% of energy professionals say the sector is not fully equipped to install the technologies needed for the transition.
Meanwhile, 89% call for greater investment and collaboration, while the same proportion say upskilling existing workers will be crucial.
E.ON UK supports around 800 people annually in developing the skills needed for the energy transition. It has also trained over 1,200 apprentices since 2018 across 100 programmes, including green skills-based courses such as control systems engineering and electro-mechanical engineering.
