Solar PV installations in the UK have increased more than 407% since 2019, according to analysis of installation data.
The analysis, from energy consultancy Glow Green, shows that annual installations rose from 53,044 in 2019 to 269,176 in 2025 and data this year remains strong with 191,997 solar PV installations recorded between January and August.
The most popular locations for solar PV are rural, costal and suburban – said to be more likely due to increased roof space, owner-occupied properties (rather than rented, as in more urban areas) and fewer installation barriers than those living in flats or densely built-up areas.
More homeowners appear to be looking at solar because they want greater control over their energy use and more protection from future bill shocks.
