A new deal could reduce the level of greenhouse gases involved in the electricity network.
Hitachi Energy and Daikin Industries have agreed a long-term supply relationship for C4-FN, a specialty gas component used in Hitachi Energy’s SF6-free high-voltage technology.
C4-FN will be produced by Daikin from its facilities in Frankfurt, with capacity due to become available in 2027.
The gas is used in insulating mixtures for Hitachi, which is designed to replace sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) in high-voltage equipment. SF6 is a potent greenhouse gas, with a global warming potential 24,300 times that of CO2.
According to Hitachi Energy, equipment using C4-FN can reduce CO2-equivalent emissions by 99% compared with conventional SF6-insulated equipment, while maintaining the same technical performance, reliability and compactness.
