A 400MW solar and 600MW battery storage project in Lincolnshire has secured development consent with construction set to begin at the Beacon Fen Energy Park.
Once operational, the site could generate enough electricity to supply around 130,000 homes and is expected to avoid approximately 72,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
This makes the development, built by Low Carbon, the first large-scale solar project approved under Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh.
Mike Rutgers, Managing Director of UK Development at Low Carbon, said: “Projects like Beacon Fen will be central to delivering the UK’s clean power ambitions, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and creating a more resilient energy system.
“We are grateful to the communities and stakeholders who have engaged with us throughout the development process, and we look forward to continuing that engagement as we progress the project.”
Consent was granted on 21st of August following the application submission in April 2025. The project will be located east of Sleaford and will connect to the electricity grid through the Bicker Fen substation.
