British Gas has today announced Fixed Solar Saver, an innovative new energy proposition designed to help small and medium-sized businesses lower their energy bills by up to 20% on average1, improve sustainability performance and gain greater certainty over future energy costs – without any upfront investment.
Launching as a pilot in partnership with specialist solar provider HDM Energy, Fixed Solar Saver combines on-site solar generation and battery storage with a fixed-price British Gas electricity tariff, creating a simple, end-to-end solution that helps businesses benefit from renewable energy without the cost, complexity or operational burden traditionally associated with solar installations.
Research commissioned by British Gas2 found that more than four in five small businesses would consider solar if it could be installed with no upfront cost, highlighting strong demand for affordable, hassle-free solutions that deliver both financial and environmental benefits.
A smarter way to lower energy costs
For many businesses, solar has long been viewed as an attractive way to reduce energy costs, but one that requires significant capital expenditure, ongoing maintenance and lengthy payback periods.
Fixed Solar Saver removes those barriers.
Through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), HDM Energy funds, designs, installs, owns and maintains the solar panels and battery storage system, while British Gas provides a simple, fixed-price, fully renewable Fixed Solar Saver tariff. Customers pay a single fixed electricity rate for all the power they use, whether generated on site or imported from the grid, removing the complexity often associated with solar energy.
With no upfront investment, no maintenance obligations and no take-or-pay commitments, Fixed Solar Saver can help eligible businesses reduce electricity costs by up to 20% from day one while providing greater price certainty and supporting a lower-carbon future.
Businesses tell us they want to reduce energy costs and improve sustainability, but the upfront investment needed can be a barrier.
Fixed Solar Saver solves this problem. It combines on-site solar with a battery and a fixed-price electricity tariff into one simple solution.
Customers who choose Fixed Solar Saver could benefit from lower energy costs, greater certainty over their bills and be greener too. No upfront costs, no maintenance responsibilities and no unnecessary effort means more time can be spent making their business grow.
