Waylands has announced the addition of EV brand Aion to its portfolio with the opening of Waylands Aion Cardiff.

The AM100 dealer group, which has won a Dealer Group of the Year award for seven years in a row at the AM Awards, sees the Chinese entrant join Volvo, Polestar, Kia, Honda, Omoda, Jaecoo and MG in the list of brands it represents.

Waylands, which has a network of 18 dealerships across the south of England and Wales, said the move reflected a continuing focus on working with forward-looking manufacturers.

It said it was impressed by Aion’s approach to giving customers confidence in EV ownership, including its ‘Great 8’ initiative, which sees each car come as standard with eight-year vehicle and battery warranties, eight years of servicing, eight years of roadside assistance and complimentary MOT cover when the car is three-to-eight years old.

The brand’s first UK model is the Aion V, a medium-sized SUV with a 317-mile electric range. This will be followed by the UT hatchback, due to launch later this year.

Waylands responds to evolving market

John O’Hanlon, CEO at Waylands, said: “We’re always looking carefully at how the market is evolving and how we can make sure we’re offering customers the right choice.

“What stood out to us about Aion is the clarity of the proposition. There’s a lot of complexity in the EV space, and customers are looking for reassurance as much as they are for product. The ‘Great 8’ cuts through that as it’s simple, transparent and genuinely customer focused.

“Just as importantly, the cars themselves are very impressive. They’re well specified, thoughtfully designed and clearly built with real-world use in mind.

“It feels like a brand with real substance behind it, and we’re proud to be introducing it in Cardiff.”
