Renault has unveiled a facelifted version of its Megane E-Tech Electric, with changes including an increased range between charges.

With the fitting of a new 67kWh battery, with new-generation lithium iron phosphate chemistry, Renault says the updated model will be capable of up to 310 miles between charges on the WLTP cycle, up from 280 miles with the previous 60kWh battery.

The new battery also features improved charging capability, with a maximum speed of 165kW (up from 130kW), meaning a 15-80% charge is now possible in around 24 minutes.

Due to the bigger battery, the Megane E-Tech is now 20mm taller than before. Renault says that the model’s suspension has been redesigned and steering retuned to maintain chassis performance with the new battery integration.

Updated design features

Renault says apart from the headlights, all front-end components are new. The bumper has a more prominent body-coloured section, and a new light signature with eight diamond-shaped components replaces former air intakes on the end of the bumper. There’s a new closed grille with gloss black finish and diamond pattern, and the Renault logo has been repositioned, while the DRLs gain a diamond pattern design.

The rear lights are now designed as 3D parts without a covering lens.

Interior changes are more subtle, but Renault has announced that the built-in Google Assistant technology will soon be replaced by Google Gemini, designed to allow drivers to interact with the car via natural conversational speech.

Other new connectivity features include driver recognition, which Renault says will recognise drivers via a facial scan and activate their personalised settings.

Newly available driver assistance systems will include intelligent adaptive cruise control, emergency stop assist, and safe driving coaching functions.

The new My Rnlt mobile app is said to allow drivers to plan routes and send them directly to the vehicle via Google Maps, as well as remotely manage functions such as charging and battery pre-conditioning.

The updated Megane E-Tech Electric has been announced with Techno and Esprit Alpine trim levels. Standard equipment with Techno trim will include 19-inch alloy wheels, a 12-inch dual-screen display, an EV route planner, a heat pump and battery pre-conditioning.

Further features of Esprit Alpine trim will include 20-inch alloys, massaging seats and a Harman Kardon audio system.

UK trim level details, specs and prices are yet to be announced.
