Ørsted has signed major contracts with 255 UK companies over the past five years, underlining the scale of the offshore wind supply chain now growing around Britain’s clean energy industry.

The offshore wind developer said its UK Supply Chain Map 2026 shows how British firms are not only supporting domestic projects but also exporting their expertise into global markets.

Nearly 30% of Ørsted’s UK supply chain, 73 companies, have worked on the company’s projects outside the UK.

Many are service-based firms providing surveys, site investigations, operations and maintenance, design and engineering.

Ørsted said several companies developed their expertise on early UK offshore wind farms before expanding overseas.

One example is North Wales-based BGB Group, which grew from a local scaffolding business into a global offshore services company employing 150 people in less than 10 years.

Ben Badham, Managing Director at BGB Group, said: “We’ve learned a lot from Ørsted. Our culture and attitude, a lot of that comes from Ørsted. Their goals and values are embedded in our own teams.”

The map also shows 129 suppliers have secured two or more contracts from Ørsted in the past five years, pointing to long-term relationships across the sector.

Around 80 suppliers are working on Hornsea 3, which is expected to become the world’s largest single offshore wind farm when complete.

Ørsted said 115 suppliers are based in its main UK regions of operation and construction, including the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, the North East and East Anglia.

A further 43 companies are based in Scotland, highlighting the role of oil and gas expertise in the energy transition.

Energy Minister Michael Shanks said: “This supply chain milestone for Ørsted is proof that our clean energy mission is backing UK businesses to support skilled jobs and growth across the country.”

He added: “The clean energy transition is the economic opportunity of the 21st century, creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs across fast-expanding industries, like offshore wind.”

Benj Sykes, Head of UK at Ørsted, said: “We rely on a vast network of companies across the UK to deliver our wind farms. We are proud to have supported suppliers across the length and breadth of Britain on a range of areas of expertise. ”
