Chery is targeting further growth in the UK seven-seater market after the Tiggo 8 became the best-selling seven-seat model in April with 1,536 registrations.
The Chinese brand, which launched in the UK in September last year, said the Tiggo 8 outsold all rival seven-seat SUVs and MPVs in April, including models from established volume and premium manufacturers.
The Tiggo 8 was also the brand’s strongest-performing model, accounting for more than half of Chery’s total UK sales.
The manufacturer attributed the performance to growing demand from family buyers seeking practical seven-seat vehicles with high standard specification levels.
More than two-thirds of Tiggo 8 sales were for the Chery Super Hybrid plug-in hybrid variant.
The powertrain combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with the brand’s Dedicated Hybrid Transmission system and dual electric motors.
Chery said the system delivers up to 56 miles of electric-only range, CO2 emissions from 21g/km and DC rapid charging from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes.
Priced from £33,545 on-the-road, the Tiggo 8 CSH is available through Chery’s expanding UK dealer network.
Farrell Hsu, country director at Chery UK, said: “When we launched last year, we were confident that our compelling product offering, retail network strategy and customer-focused aftersales care would help us to stand apart in this highly competitive market.
“This strategy is already delivering results, and the Tiggo 8 achieving the milestone of best-selling seven-seater last month reflects not only how well received our brand has already become, but also sets out our aspirations for the future, built around long-term, sustainable growth and electrified powertrain technology.”
Chery UK opened a pop-up experience on Oxford Street earlier this month as part of a wider push to build brand awareness, following strong early UK market share growth.
Chery’s group of brands rollout will continue later this year with the introduction of Lepas, a new energy vehicle brand, with its first model, the Lepas L8, due to arrive in the third quarter.
