A US company making bio-enhancing concrete solutions designed to strengthen marine infrastructure, has secured more funding.

ECOncrete has secured $14 million (£10.3m) in new funding to accelerate the global rollout of its sustainable marine infrastructure technology.

The material is used around ports and offshore wind farms as a sustainable concrete but also a marine habitat creator, improving biodiversity.

Over the past 18 months, the company said it has deployed its technology across more than 20 marine infrastructure projects worldwide, creating over 90,000m² of marine habitat.

ECOncrete’s systems are already installed across major global infrastructure projects, including shoreline protection works in New York City, subsea cable infrastructure in the Mediterranean and Atlantic – and biodiversity projects at the Port of San Diego and Port of San Francisco.

The company said increasing global investment in offshore wind, ports and coastal resilience projects is driving demand for adaptive marine construction technologies.

ECOncrete said the investment will support expansion across coastal protection, sustainable ports and offshore infrastructure projects as demand for climate-resilient construction grows.
