America’s Auto Auction has acquired G3 Remarketing, trading as G3 Vehicle Auctions, in a move that gives the auction business its first footprint outside the United States.

The deal includes G3’s auction sites in Castleford and Bedford and marks a significant expansion for America’s Auto Auction as it looks to grow alongside established operators in new markets.

Founded in 2009 by Matt Dale and Amanda Holtby, G3 Vehicle Auctions has built its position in the UK remarketing sector through a mix of physical auction operations and digital capability.

Remarketing expansion

America’s Auto Auction said it had chosen G3 because of its reputation, growth trajectory and modern approach to remarketing, combining digital and physical channels.

Chuck Tapp, chief executive of America’s Auto Auction, said: “Entering the UK market is a defining moment for our company, and there was only one way we wanted to do it, with a partner that is already setting the standard.

“G3 has built something truly differentiated in how they serve customers and evolve the auction experience. That made this the right first step internationally. We are not here to change what is working. We are here to invest in it, support it, and help take it even further.”

G3’s operating model includes daily sales segmented by price point, giving dealers access to more curated stock. Its marketplace handles a broad mix of vehicles including cars, vans and light commercial vehicles, motorbikes, wheelchair-access vehicles and non-runners.

The company’s Castleford site, opened in 2021, has the capacity to process up to 50,000 vehicles annually and hosts multiple sales each week. Its Bedford operation adds capacity for up to 30,000 vehicles a year and extends its reach across the south of England.

G3 to keep identity

As part of the acquisition, America’s Auto Auction said G3 would continue to operate under its existing name, with its culture, service model and processes remaining in place.

Matt Dale, joint founder of G3 Vehicle Auctions, said: “It became apparent as soon as we engaged with America’s Auto Auction that they would be excellent custodians of the company. It was critical that the values, culture and long-term vision aligned with our future ambition for G3.

“This deal will provide a multitude of personal development opportunities for the existing team and further bolster G3’s position as the UK’s go-to remarketing partner for both vendors and purchasers’ said Matt Dale, Joint Founder of G3 Vehicle Auctions.

“We are immensely proud of the sustained, profitable growth of G3 since its inception and are equally confident the business will continue to flourish under the stewardship of the existing senior management team and under America’s Auto Auctions wider guidance”

Cooper Parry acted as deal advisor and Gordons as legal advisor to the sellers, while Squire Patton Boggs served as legal advisor to America’s Auto Auction.
