Dealer logistics platform Jigcar has helped Glyn Hopkin reduce used car vehicle movements by 40%, delivering significant operational savings across the group’s multi-site network.

Using Jigcar’s transport management software (TMS), the dealership group – which operates more than 35 locations across the south east – reduced vehicle movements by 1,241 over a six-month period.

The reduction equated to transportation savings of £112,628, with the business now on track to save more than £225,000 across the full year.

Jigcar said its AI-powered vehicle transport platform provided the retailer with centralised visibility of used car movements while identifying inefficiencies across the group’s logistics operations.

AI improves vehicle logistics

The system analyses vehicle movement data across the dealer network and flags unnecessary journeys at the point a transport request is made.

By identifying inefficiencies and providing data-led insights, Jigcar said the platform helps retailers reduce repeated movements and optimise vehicle logistics between dealership sites.

Elliott Perks, ceo of Jigcar, said: “We’ve been working with Glyn Hopkin since February 2024, using our data-driven methodology to address unnecessary vehicle movements and deliver considerable bottom line benefits.

“By presenting the team with movement insights, and flagging inefficiencies at the point of request, we’ve prevented cars from moving multiple times and making unnecessary journeys, such as going back to sites they have already been to.”

Dealer network gains visibility

According to Glyn Hopkin, the technology has given the business group-wide oversight of used car transport activity, enabling more efficient vehicle allocation between locations.

The retailer said the platform has also helped accelerate vehicle transfers across its network while eliminating wasted journeys.

Peter Wilcox, used car director at Glyn Hopkin, said: “Jigcar’s TMS platform has given us automated group-wide real-time visibility of all our used car movements, giving us control, and enabling us to ensure vehicles are moved efficiently and cost effectively.

The result has been significant operational savings and an elimination of wasted journeys, as well as quicker movement timelines.”

Jigcar said it is now working with the retailer to apply the same technology to new car movements as it looks to deliver further operational efficiencies across the business.
