New data from Cinch shows electric vehicles (EV) recorded their strongest year-on-year growth in 2025, while petrol and diesel models continued to dominate overall used car sales.

EV sales on Cinch increased by 29% compared with 2024, as the average used EV price fell by 4%.

Cinch said softer pricing, wider choice and growing confidence in used electric vehicles helped drive demand.

The most sold electric car on the platform in 2025 was the Tesla Model 3, followed by the Nissan Leaf and Hyundai Kona Electric.

Cinch said the mix of saloon, hatchback and SUV suggests buyers are prioritising range, price and features rather than body style.

Across all fuel types, the Vauxhall Corsa was the best-selling used car on cinch during 2025.

It was followed by the Nissan Qashqai, Ford Fiesta, Mini Hatchback and Volkswagen Golf, underlining continued demand for small hatchbacks and family SUVs.

At a brand level, Ford remained the most sold manufacturer overall on Cinch, ahead of Volkswagen and Vauxhall.

In the EV market, Tesla led sales, followed by Volkswagen, Hyundai, Vauxhall and Kia. Cinch noted that newer brands such as BYD are beginning to appear among the fastest-selling electric models.

Ben Welham, motoring expert at Cinch, said: “We’re seeing the EV market mature.

“Prices are more accessible, and buyers are realising that used EVs can offer incredible value.

“The growth we’ve seen in 2025 shows that electric is no longer a niche choice, it’s becoming a mainstream consideration.”

Search data from Cinch also highlighted the influence of popular culture on buyer behaviour.

Searches for the Land Rover Defender increased by 28% in January 2026 compared with the 2025 daily average, following the latest series of the BBC TV programme The Traitors.

Welham added: “The data shows a car market in transition.

“Buyers want value, efficiency and tech, and they’re more open than ever to going electric. With more models arriving in 2026, we expect this momentum to continue.”
