Poultry giant Tyson will pay nearly $28,000 over violations found following a worker’s death at a Nebraska plant earlier this year.
The Omaha World-Herald reports that Tyson Fresh Meats was cited by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for two violations at its Dakota City facility. The probe was opened after a worker was killed by a lowering crane on Jan. 6.
According to the report, the employee was crushed while performing maintenance on a pallet-moving machine in the plant’s warehouse area. A sensor caused the crane to lower while the worker was lying underneath the machine.
OSHA officials reportedly cited Tyson over its failure to implement hazardous energy control procedures and for failing to review steps to shut down power to the machine with its workers. The company will pay $27,790 in total.
