Tottenham’s high streets are getting a high-tech, green upgrade as Haringey Council rolls out new electric street cleaning equipment to support cleaner and more sustainable public spaces.

In partnership with Veolia, the council is introducing an electric caged tipper vehicle and three electric sweeper barrows across Tottenham.

This follows the success of a similar rollout in Wood Green over the last year, where the new kit delivered improved street cleanliness and efficiency.

The move comes in direct response to resident feedback, which highlighted concerns around waste, litter and cleanliness.

The upgraded equipment aims to make a visible difference, ensuring public spaces are kept cleaner, greener and more welcoming for residents and visitors.

Cllr Ruth Gordon, Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Local Economy, added: “Our new electric barrows and tipper vehicle mean streets and bins can be cleaned more effectively. I’m hugely grateful to our hard-working cleansing teams – they really do an incredible job.”

The e-barrows feature cold pressure washers for removing dirt and stains, while the electric tipper will collect waste, clean bins and rapidly respond to spills.

The investment reflects the council’s ongoing focus on sustainability as Tottenham’s streets get a smart, green clean-up.
