Stellantis has partnered with Convo to provide British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters through a QR code at nearly 850 dealerships across the UK.
Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, Leapmotor, Abarth, Alfa Romeo and DS dealers will feature a QR code in showrooms, allowing customers to access a BSL interpreter within moments using their smartphone.
The Convo video platform connects deaf customers to qualified interpreters in real time.
After scanning the QR code, the customer signs to the interpreter, who relays the conversation verbally to the salesperson, enabling communication without the need to pre-book support.
The rollout, which goes live on March 30, is one of the largest accessibility initiatives in the UK automotive sector and coincides with Sign Language Week, running from March 16 to 22.
Removing barriers for deaf customers
Stellantis said the move is designed to remove barriers for deaf customers, who have traditionally had to arrange interpreters in advance or rely on family members when visiting retailers, particularly when discussing finance, test drives or aftersales.
The group has previously introduced BSL support across its network, with Citroën becoming the first automotive manufacturer in the UK to embed BSL accessibility across retail and aftersales in 2021.
Eurig Druce, Stellantis UK group managing director, said: “I’m really proud to be able to make this announcement during Sign Language Awareness Week.
“Our partnership with Convo represents an important advancement in the support we provide to BSL users across our retailer network.
“By enabling instant BSL interpretation at our sites, we are strengthening our commitment to an inclusive and high-quality retail experience for all our customers, ensuring that communication is fully accessible.”
