SSE has completed turbine installation at its 17.3 MW onshore wind project in Puglia, southern Italy, just six months after construction began.
The combined Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva sites now host five Siemens Gamesa SG 132-3.4 MW turbines, installed on schedule by a joint team from SSE Renewables, Siemens Gamesa and principal contractor Idoka Construzioni.
At peak delivery, the project has supported around 70 construction roles, providing a lift for the local supply chain across the Puglia region.
With the final unit now erected, the project moves into commissioning and testing. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2026.
The turbines feature 132 metre rotors designed to capture consistent Apulian winds and optimise output across a range of operating conditions.
Grid integration works and plant energisation activities will run in parallel with mechanical and electrical testing to ensure performance, safety and reliability standards are met before handover to operations.
Gianluca Mercurio, Country Manager for Italy at SSE Renewables, said: “This is an important delivery milestone for our first construction project in Italy. We now look forward to working closely with our partners as we begin testing and commissioning in the months ahead of target completion in 2026.”
The wind farm is being delivered by Parco Eolico Tramontana S.R.L., a wholly owned subsidiary of FTSE 100 listed SSE plc under SSE Renewables.
Once operational, the project will contribute new clean electricity to the Italian grid while supporting regional decarbonisation goals and energy security.
