Smart meter installations across Great Britain reached a 2025 high in June, with 233,000 installations recorded, according to ElectraLink’s latest energy market data.

This figure surpasses May’s previous record of 215,000 and marks a 30 percent increase compared to June 2024, when 178,000 installations were completed.

The new total brings the cumulative number of smart meter installations to 26.1 million since ElectraLink began tracking the rollout. So far this year, 1.3 million installations have taken place, highlighting continued momentum in the nationwide push to modernise energy usage and infrastructure.

Regional figures remain consistent with recent trends.

East England recorded the highest number of installations at 28,000. Southern England and the East Midlands followed closely, with each recording 23,000 installations.

These insights were produced by ElectraLink’s Data Transfer Service (DTS), it provides a key source of energy market intelligence and its users have given ElectraLink permission to analyse these flows under specified conditions.

ElectraLink’s energy market information defines smart meters as devices capable of handling time of use tariffs and remote updates.

Since September 2013, all meters flagged as SMETS1, SMETS2 or non-SMETS are counted. For earlier installations, classification is based on meter make and model.

While the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) publishes dual fuel smart meter data, ElectraLink’s reporting focuses on electricity meters, offering a reliable measure of rollout progress.
