ServiceNow today announced an agreement to acquire Mission Secure, a Charlottesville, Virginia-based company that provides asset discovery for operational technology (OT) devices. The devices can help organizations improve visibility and context into their OT environments and minimize downtime with dependable service management.

Mission Secure technology will enable ServiceNow to provide OT asset visibility, making it easier for organizations to track and manage their OT, such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), sensors, robotic systems, and control modules.

Currently, many businesses lack full visibility into their OT environments, which can lead to costly errors and unexpected downtime. For example, ServiceNow says its customers often ask for broader visibility into OT assets, especially as they look to strengthen their digital factory. This approach integrates all the digital solutions, data, systems, and physical components involved in production.

By integrating Mission Secures’ technology into its NOW Platform, ServiceNow will enable industrial markets like manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, energy and utilities, and transportation and logistics, among others, to better understand their asset landscape. Companies should be able to make smarter decisions, reduce errors, and optimize operations.

The Mission Secure acquisition follows previous acquisitions of 4Industry and EY Smart Daily Management Application, as well as G2K, broadening ServiceNow’s reach in the digital factory space and strengthening the company’s position in the OT sector.
