Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution has launched a new digital platform that allows customers to quickly and easily get accurate estimates for electricity connections.
The ‘Self-Serve’ tool, rolled out in late spring, is already helping more than 1,000 users cut waiting times and access personalised quotes in as little as two minutes.
The platform was developed in response to growing demand for electricity connections, particularly as more customers adopt electric vehicles and low-carbon heating.
Using smart technology, the tool guides customers through a simple online process where they input details such as property type, site layout and whether they’re installing EV chargers or electric heating.
Currently, Self-Serve supports quotes for up to four domestic properties. In the coming months, the platform will be expanded to include services such as moving a meter or increasing supply capacity to accommodate new technologies.
SSEN plans further rollout to support more connection types.
Initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
The innovation also frees up SSEN’s internal teams to better support customers who proceed with connection requests.
Andy Scott, Director of Customer Service at SSEN, said: “Our priority is making it easier for customers to connect to the electricity network. Self-Serve is a major step forward in delivering faster, smarter service, and we’re thrilled to see how well it’s been received.”
