Up to 460 new jobs are set to be created at the Grangemouth industrial cluster following £8.5 million of Scottish Government funding to accelerate low-carbon innovation.

The investment is designed to support a just transition for one of Scotland’s key manufacturing hubs while promoting sustainable growth and cutting emissions.

MiAlgae will receive £1.5 million to scale its production of fish-free omega-3 made from algae, using whisky byproducts to reduce pressure on marine ecosystems.

The company expects to create up to 310 jobs over five years, with the funding match-funded by the UK Government. Ministers estimate this activity could bring £53 million into the Scottish economy.

A further £6.23 million will support pre-construction work for Celtic Renewables’ new bio-refinery, expected to create up to 149 roles by 2030.

The facility will convert food, drink and farming waste into sustainable chemicals used in everyday products, reducing reliance on fossil-derived alternatives.

The funding package aims to strengthen Grangemouth’s potential as a leading centre for green manufacturing and future investment.
