Reconomy has announced plans to open a £20 million plastic recycling facility in Corby, Northamptonshire, through its Eurokey brand.
The 138,000 sq ft plant will be one of the UK’s largest dedicated plastic recycling sites focused on supporting supermarkets and retailers with closed-loop recycling.
Plastic material sorted at Eurokey’s nearby Kettering facility will be processed at the Corby plant and converted into recycled plastic pellets. These pellets can then be used to manufacture new plastic packaging for supermarkets.
The new site aims to boost domestic recycling capacity and reduce the UK’s reliance on exporting plastic waste.
According to UK Government data, only around 51% of plastic packaging is currently recycled.
Once fully operational in the second half of 2026, the facility will be able to process up to 38,000 tonnes of plastic annually. The site is also expected to create more than 30 local jobs.
Mike Benton, Recycle Loop Managing Director of Reconomy, said: “This is an exceptional milestone for our business and for the UK’s plastics recycling industry.”
He added: “This facility will play a major role in increasing domestic recycling capacity and reducing reliance on virgin plastic by keeping high-quality material in circulation.”
