Post Holdings on Wednesday announced plans to shutter cereal manufacturing facilities in Nevada and Ontario, citing continued declines in the ready-to-eat cereal segment.

The plants, located in Sparks, Nevada, and Cobourg, Ontario, are scheduled to close down by the end of the year. The move affects about 300 workers between the two locations.

Production from the facilities will be shifted to other Post locations as the company moves to reduce capacity in its overall cereal manufacturing network.

“The ready-to-eat cereal category continues to decline,” Post Consumer Brands President and CEO Nicolas Catoggio said in a statement. “To respond to this, we are reducing excess manufacturing capacity and optimizing our North American plant network to better utilize our production capacity.”
