Polestar is expanding its Polestar Energy offer, making grid rewards and car controlled smart charging available to UK customers alongside other European markets.
The move is aimed at reducing total cost of ownership by enabling drivers to charge at lower cost and at times that support grid stability.
Polestar Energy, launched at the end of 2024 and expanded into 12 European markets by mid 2025, already includes smart charging and home solar integration.
The latest update adds grid rewards in additional markets and introduces car controlled smart charging for eligible models, including the Polestar 2 and Polestar 4.
Grid rewards allow customers to earn savings by enabling their vehicle to support grid stability through smart managed charging. In markets where it is live, customers can save up to £260 per year, depending on usage and tariff.
Olivier Loedel, head of product software management at Polestar, said: “Expanding the offer of grid rewards to more markets marks an important next step in lowering total costs of ownership for Polestar drivers.
“By unlocking savings of up to €300 (£262) per year, we significantly reducing electricity costs for our customers at a time when energy prices remain high and grid stability is a growing concern across several European markets.”
Polestar has also introduced car-controlled smart charging via the Polestar Energy app across all Polestar Energy markets.
The update removes the need for a specific integrated home charger, with the vehicle itself managing charging times when connected.
Charging is optimised based on electricity price signals, household demand and grid conditions, lowering energy bills and broadening access to smart charging for customers.
Loedel added: ”The majority of EV charging happens at home, and cost-efficient, seamless home charging is a key convenience for drivers today.
“Reducing barriers such as the need for a specific home charger, opens the benefits of Polestar Energy and smart charging to even more Polestar customers.”
Polestar said smart charging can also reduce the CO2e footprint of the use phase by shifting charging to periods when renewable energy generation is higher.
The Polestar Energy app is available as a free download in participating markets.
