Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm has signed a lease for up to 300,000 square metres at Steel River Quay, part of the Teesworks site on the River Tees, signalling a major commitment to British infrastructure and the green industrial transition.

The site will serve as a key logistics hub for monopile foundations and secondary steel components ahead of offshore construction.

Each monopile can weigh over 2,300 tonnes – the equivalent of Nelson’s Column – underscoring the scale of operations.

Jason Ledden, Senior Project Director for Hornsea 3, said: “Ørsted’s choice of Steel River Quay at Teesworks for Hornsea 3 demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in British infrastructure, growth and jobs.”

Hornsea 3, set to power millions of homes with clean energy, will also support economic regeneration on Teesside, creating jobs and unlocking investment in offshore wind.

The site’s close proximity to supply chain partners such as Severfield and SeAH, and access to installation vessels via Cadeler, underscores its strategic value.

Ally Cameron, Managing Director at Steel River Quay, said: “This partnership will not only deliver clean energy infrastructure for the UK but also drive jobs, investment and opportunity for our region.”

Chris Musgrave OBE, Teesworks Ltd Chairman, added: “This is exactly the kind of transformational project we envisaged when we began regenerating this site.”

As the UK accelerates its net zero journey, the Hornsea 3 and Teesworks partnership marks a pivotal step in linking energy security, industrial growth and emissions reduction.
