Holland, Michigan-based Intella Parts Company, a supplier of aftermarket forklift and aerial lift parts, recently sought to find the oldest Toyota forklift in operation. The company holds an annual contest to find relics still on shop floors. Last year, the company discovered a 1945 Hyster model KD KarryKrane owned by Phillip DeLuna from Public Steel in Amarillo, TX.

The Toyota wasn’t quite as old, but the manufacturer didn’t get into the forklift game until 1956, with the model LA 1-ton internal combustion engine counterbalanced forklift.

The oldest operating Toyota forklift found by Intella is owned by Alexander Toolsie from Burlington, Ontario, who still uses his 1978 Toyota model 42-3FGC20.

The Toyota 42-3FGC20 was designed for heavy-duty material handling. It has a gas-powered engine, and the model is known for its solid construction, efficient operation, and ease of maintenance, according to Intella.

The forklift was built in Toyota’s factory in Takahama-shi, Aichi, Japan, and was popular in warehouses, distribution centers, and other industrial environments.

Toolsie won a $100 Intella gift certificate as well as a $100 Visa gift card.

Intella sells aftermarket forklift parts for most brands, even the old models. The company often encounters remarkably old units still working in the field, which spurred the idea for the contest. Marcel VandenTop, president of Intella Parts, says his company helps keep forklifts running, even the older models.
