Ed Miliband, and OFGEM’s Director General for Markets, Tim Jarvis, have written to brokers and consultants in light of the energy price volatility caused by the ongoing Iran war.

In the letter (see below) they have warned that current price spikes make it more important than ever that TPIs offer transparency to customers.

The letter points to actions organisations across the sector can take to better support customers in navigating this challenging period – in particular small business customers, charities and business contracts that supply domestic end consumers, for example in heat networks.

The government and Ofgem say they have also written to suppliers to remind them of their obligations.

They said: “Good TPI interactions with customers can be of enormous benefit in ensuring they are fully aware of their options and the implications the current situation may have for them.”

Both government and OFGEM said they have learned the lessons from the 2022 energy crisis and are keen to use that experience to ensure the best possible customer outcomes, in terms of information and help.
