Three Norfolk primary schools will get to inspire the next generation of conservationists.

Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 Community Fund has awarded £16,685 to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, to help primary school children connect with nature and boost biodiversity through the Wilder Schools programme.

The scheme will work with three schools over the next two years, delivering outdoor lessons to 150 pupils, training for teachers and assemblies.

Activities include planting wildflowers, installing bat boxes and encouraging pupils to take direct environmental action.

Isabelle Mudge, Wilder Learning Manager at NWT, said: “This generous support from Ørsted will enable us to inspire children and their school communities to take action for nature.”

The initiative forms part of Ørsted’s Skills Fund, which this year allocated £275,000 across 11 education and training projects in Lancashire, Cumbria, East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

It aims to improve access to education, training and job opportunities near Ørsted’s UK offshore wind farms.

Since launching, the funds have awarded nearly £1.8 million to 86 projects.
