Take heating. It’s half of the UK’s energy use but we’re still burning gas in individual boilers like it’s the 1970s. Tony thinks we’re mad not to look at systems that are already working across Europe – district heating, heat networks, smart infrastructure that delivers more with less.
So why aren’t we doing it?
Why are we still building energy-hungry buildings then scrambling to power them with more turbines?
Tony pulls no punches – we’ve lacked ambition, strategy and a proper plan. And if we don’t sort it soon, we’ll keep throwing good money after bad.
He’s not anti-renewables. He’s just calling for balance – generate green, yes- but use it wisely and do it in the appropriate place. And crucially, build a system where efficiency isn’t an afterthought but the foundation.
