The Mazda6e will arrive in the UK this summer with a simplified line-up comprising Takumi and Takumi Plus grades, priced at £38,995 and £39,995 respectively.

The new model marks the return of the Mazda6 nameplate as a battery electric vehicle.

It is based on a model developed in partnership with Chinese brand Changan and sits on the same platform as Changan’s Deepal S07.

Mazda dealers have largely enjoyed selling petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrids to buyers who are quite happy not having an electric car. But, at some point, the brand is going to have to start hitting those targets, which are only becoming more stringent. It needed a long-range EV.

Revealed at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show and already on sale in mainland Europe, the Mazda6e is offered in the UK with a single 78kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.

Mazda said this specification combines range, performance and charging capability, delivering a combined WLTP range of 348 miles.

The rear-wheel drive Mazda6e produces 258ps and 290Nm of torque, reaching 62mph in 7.9 seconds. Using a 195kW DC rapid charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes.

The Mazda6e replaces the previous petrol and diesel Mazda6, which was sold in the UK from 2002 to 2023 and proved popular with both retail and fleet customers.

Mazda said the new model blends premium saloon styling with five-door hatchback practicality.

The interior includes a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument display and an augmented reality head-up display.

Practicality is supported by a 336-litre boot, good rear passenger space and a 72-litre front storage compartment.

Mazda6e is the car UK dealers have been waiting for

Jeremy Thomson, managing director of Mazda Motors UK, said: “The Mazda6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for, with a nod to the popularity of the Mazda6 it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology and style to battery electric vehicles.

“With the suspension, power steering and braking carefully calibrated by the team at Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to match UK preferences, I’m sure the Mazda6e will be an electric car that delivers the engaging driver experience you’d expect from Mazda.”

Thomson said the UK market is facing some unique and complex challenges in the balance between EV legislation and consumer demand.

He added: “We will introduce new models and ensure our product range fits the pace of actual consumer demand in the UK with technologies that are amongst the best in the market.

“The arrival of the Mazda6e in UK showrooms this summer is a timely addition to our multi-solution approach that includes mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric offerings.”

Mazda said pricing under £40,000 and standard equipment levels across both trims position the Mazda6e strongly in the D-segment EV fleet market.

Order books are now open, with first UK deliveries expected this summer. The brand also confirmed that the all-new Mazda CX-6e SUV will follow later in the year.
