Mazda has revealed the third-generation of its best-selling Mazda CX-5 SUV which will arrive in showrooms next summer.
First launched in 2012, the all-new CX-5 will be powered by a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine paired with Mazda’s 24V mild-hybrid system.
Replacing the previous 2.0-litre base engine, this powertrain delivers 141ps (104 kW) and 238 Nm of torque, enabling the front-wheel-drive version to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 10.5 seconds.
Both FWD and AWD configurations will be available, alongside chassis and suspension enhancements and a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg.
A suite of updated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) will aim to secure a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
Jeremy Thomson, managing director of Mazda Motors UK, said: “Having recently surpassed 100,000 sales in the UK, it’s clear this ever-popular SUV has seen amazing customer loyalty and satisfaction.”
He added: “It’s incredible to look back and consider just how much the UK market has changed since the CX-5’s launch in 2012. The huge increase in the popularity of SUVs means that today the CX-5 sits alongside the Mazda CX-60, all-new Mazda CX-80 and the smaller CX-30 in our line-up.
“But it was the success of the award-winning CX-5 that established Mazda as a maker of genuinely sporty SUVs, delivering class-leading quality and high levels of standard equipment.”
It also becomes the first Mazda to feature Google built-in, offering navigation and connectivity.
With a longer wheelbase, increased boot space (up by 61 litres), and wider-opening rear doors, a 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench offers greater flexibility.
Four trim grades are avaialble: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, and Homura which adds features such as a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting.
