On Friday, Lockheed Martin received a $756 million contract from the U.S. Army to deliver additional capability for the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), a ground-based hypersonic weapon system.
As part of the new deal, Lockheed will provide the Army with more LRHW battery equipment, systems and software engineering support, as well as logistics solutions.
The LRHW weapon system plans to debut a new class of ultrafast and maneuverable long-range hypersonic missiles with the ability to launch from ground mobile platforms.

The system is designed to launch the common hypersonic All Up Round (AUR) – provided by the U.S. Navy-managed Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program – and includes the Army canister, a battery operations center, and transporter erector launchers.
According to Steve Layne, VP of Hypersonic Strike Weapon Systems at Lockheed Martin, the company manufacture additional batteries for future fielding and also support flight testing.

According to the company, it has been developing advanced hypersonic technology for the last 60 years.
