IMI has secured a new contract to supply equipment for the UK’s Sizewell C nuclear power station, marking its continued role in supporting European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) projects worldwide.

Sizewell C units 1 and 2 will be the seventh and eighth EPRs fitted with IMI technology, joining Taishan 1 and 2 in China, Olkiluoto 3 in Finland, Flamanville 3 in France and the in-progress Hinkley Point C reactors in the UK.

The EPR design offers greater efficiency than earlier nuclear reactors, using less uranium and generating less radioactive waste. Flamanville 3, the latest to come online, cuts waste by 15–30% through more complete uranium fission.

Luc Todo, President of EMEA Strategic Projects Nuclear at IMI, said: “Nuclear reactors are amongst the harshest environments on earth, requiring precise, robust and reliable equipment, manufactured to the very highest standards.

“The consistent use of IMI equipment across EPRs contributes to the model’s replicability, helping mitigate risk and avoid cost overruns.”

He added: “We are proud to be continuing our involvement in the EPR project, which has a vital role in reducing carbon emissions and cutting the costs of new nuclear. Our role in the industry reflects the reliability and reputation of our products.”
