TV architect George Clarke has joined forces with ScottishPower to encourage households across Britain to adopt greener technologies and cut energy use, as new research shows many people still see sustainable living as out of reach.
The presenter, known for Channel 4 programmes including George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces and The Restoration Man, will lead the ScottishPower Great Green Challenge, a year-long initiative designed to show how practical changes can make homes more energy efficient and affordable to run.
The partnership follows research commissioned by ScottishPower which found that 67% of people believe greener living is too difficult or expensive, while almost half think energy efficiency measures will not significantly reduce bills.
Clarke launched the campaign with a visit to ScottishPower’s Whitelee Windfarm near Glasgow, the UK’s largest onshore wind farm, to see renewable energy generation first-hand.
Over the next 12 months he will travel across the country working with households to explore solutions including smart meters, solar panels, heat pumps, electric vehicle charging and changes in energy use habits.
George Clarke said many people are willing to go green but feel confused by the costs and technology.
