Gen Z’s ‘TikTok showers’ draining their wallets faster than their stress

The Gen Z love for long showers is hitting them where it hurts—their wallets.

According to new research from Uswitch.com, a quarter of young adults indulge in ‘everything showers,’ a TikTok-fuelled trend, where people spend an hour pampering themselves under a running shower.

The cost? A staggering £2.69 per session for those with electric showers. If done weekly, that adds up to £140 a year.

Beyond these marathon washes, Gen Z’s regular showers are also longer than average. Those aged 18 to 28 spend 12 minutes 24 seconds in the shower, more than double the 5 minutes 18 seconds for over-55s.

That extra time translates to a higher energy bill, 38p per shower versus 16p.

While Gen Z is splashing out, others are cutting back. Two in five people (40%) have reduced their shower time due to rising energy costs. Nearly three in ten (28%) have stopped using their baths altogether.

For those looking to save, use an energy-efficient showerhead, reducing shower time and lowering water temperature. Shorter, cooler showers could mean big savings too without sacrificing hygiene.
