A new free, open-source modelling tool is aiming to strip the guesswork out of battery storage economics by showing how assets actually perform against real UK market signals.
The Levelise Calculator, now live online, gives installers, energy managers and system designers half-hourly modelling across a full year, aligned to how the electricity system really operates.
Instead of relying on annual averages or headline assumptions, users can test how batteries stack up across different revenue streams under realistic conditions.
The tool reflects market mechanisms rather than theoretical returns, allowing users to explore income from capacity market participation, flexibility and response services and smart tariff arbitrage.
That makes it possible to see where value is genuinely coming from and where assumptions may be doing too much heavy lifting.
It is designed to work with real data, – users can paste in consumption and generation profiles directly from spreadsheets, making it suitable for checking proposals, stress-testing designs and comparing options using site-specific inputs rather than generic templates.
The calculator is fully open-source, all calculations are visible and no user data is stored or transmitted.
