The environment and cost savings are the two biggest drivers for UK dealerships as part of their sustainability strategies, as revealed in a recent survey conducted by AM on behalf of Black Horse.*

UK automotive dealerships are making significant strides towards a more sustainable future with nearly two-thirds already having a sustainability strategy in place.

The survey results have highlighted that the environment (three fifths) and cost reductions (over two fifths) are two of the biggest main areas of focus for dealer groups around sustainability.

Black Horse commissioned the survey that interviewed automotive retail industry professionals to gain further insight into their views around EVs and sustainability.

With the Government’s latest provisional data showing the UK transport sector is responsible for 29.1% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, dealerships, along with all UK businesses will need to change how they operate in order to meet ambitious targets.

Dealerships also play an essential role in facilitating the transition for customers to move to electric vehicles (EV).

Beyond EV adoption, dealerships are implementing practical measures to reduce operational emissions.

Waste management and recycling initiatives are gaining traction, with half of the surveyed dealerships having already adopted such programs.

Renewable energy solutions, particularly solar power, are also on the rise, with many dealer groups, installing solar arrays to reduce energy costs and reliance on the grid.

Lloyds Banking Group, Black Horse’s parent company, has its own ambitious targets in place, to drive long term change with focused action.

Preston Rogers, Black Horse consumer distribution director at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “This isn’t just about capitalising where it’s convenient.

“We have a responsibility to make this transition happen—and make it happen faster.”
