Camden Council has unveiled the Camden Challenge Prize 2025, a borough-wide call for bold, sustainable ideas to tackle food waste in the Hospitality and Food Service (HaFS) sector.
The initiative marks the first in a series of annual competitions focused on Camden’s key social missions, with this year’s spotlight on reducing food waste and emissions.
Open to individuals, startups, chefs and organisations across the UK, the Prize invites practical or pioneering ideas—whether fledgling concepts or proven models.
Selected applicants could receive £5,000 to prototype their solution, with the opportunity to secure a final award of £75,000 to scale it within the borough.
Councillor Richard Olszewski, Leader of Camden Council, said: “We know that food waste is a real problem for Camden. Many families need the nutritious food which is being wasted, and throwing good food away is expensive and bad for the environment. Camden Challenge Prize 2025 is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in our community to share their brilliant ideas to make sure more of our food is used and enjoyed.”
Entries must address at least one of three core challenges: reducing surplus food, shifting workplace culture around waste, or improving how waste is managed to divert it from landfill.
Camden’s goal is to help every resident eat well every day—with food that is nutritious, affordable and sustainable.
Applications are open until 5pm on Tuesday 30 September 2025. Solutions must be applicable to and tested in Camden.
