The super-charged savings follow wholesaler price increases for water, that are impacting many businesses and sites and started in April 2025 as part of the latest 4-year charges, approved by the industry regulator.
Water Plus released the figures, that cover a small group of sites, to help businesses and the public sector by raising awareness on opportunities to reverse rising costs, including across utilities.
It’s also highlighting how regular site checks and tracking water use closer can build and strengthen resilience against operational risks.
One multi-site saw a huge saving of more than £350,000, with a £116,000 reduction in wholesaler charges, each year, after the opportunity was identified by a Key Account Manager at Water Plus. A further £200,000 saving was also identified for the business.
A data logger and analysis portal supplied through Water Plus highlighted when water use increased by 6,000 litres an hour, adding more than £600 in wholesaler charges each day to running costs at a separate site, in July 2025, helping to highlight an area needing investigating on a meter that was hard for the business to regularly access for reads.
And another multi-site had a £21,000 annual cost reduction in wholesaler charges identified through new analysis tools Water Plus has introduced in 2025, as part of enhancements and developments for its customer offer and services.
Frazer Guderre, a Key Account Manager at Water Plus who has helped identify running cost reductions for big brands, said: “Businesses and the public sector may not realise they have ways to make significant savings on utility costs in short time periods, which helps budgets and overall efficiency. Whether it’s a one site location, or a number of sites, small and easy actions can add up quickly to substantial results.
“Both businesses and the public sector, alongside sports clubs and other locations, face water scarcity risks and with the wholesaler price increases for water and ongoing energy costs, it’s the ideal time to explore smarter approaches around water use and trade effluent. This can be a catalyst to open-up opportunities to meet evolving challenges and deliver significant savings and efficiencies.”
Amongst the range of other businesses seeing costs drop, are:
- A major manufacturer in the food and drink sector received a £39k saving, in 2025, on wholesaler charges, after a review of their water use and wholesaler costs, at their largest manufacturing site, by the Water Plus Key Account Manager working with them.
And they are seeing a 13k a year saving from 2025 onwards from this work, where the Key Account Manager highlighted the opportunity and helped with the application to the wholesaler to reduce the water bill.
- A £78,000 saving in wholesaler costs was found and delivered in 2025, after a Water Plus Key Account Manager located the saving opportunity, as part of their proactive customer centric engagement and approach. The site was also helped with the application to the wholesaler, for the saving.
- Another site saw a data logger installed through Water Plus find additional water use that could be reduced in 2025, when use increased to more than 20,000 litres a day. It could have cost more than £20,000 in additional wholesaler charges, if it had continued for a year.
A large facility has seen a saving of £14,000 delivered in 2025 after close partnership work and the knowledge of one of the Key Account Managers at Water Plus. The site had chosen Water Plus in 2024, as its trusted business water partner and the saving has already been delivered after the Key Account Manager alerted the customer to the opportunity.
Dan Twemlow, Key Account Manager at Water Plus, said: “It’s great to have delivered a saving from our close work with this customer and showing them ways to reduce ongoing water costs in 2025. We supported this site with our knowledge and highlighted some of the easy to access information needed to gain this saving.
“We’re working with them to explore further areas for efficiencies and to reduce running costs as part of the customer engagement, support and service we can provide.”
